Fighter's Devlog 4

Hello!

Welcome to 25D_Fit's fourth devlog! April has been an interesting month for the game. So without further ado, let's get started!

First, I'll start with the game features.

It's still a work in progress, but we have some sleek upgrades, thanks to our UI artist, Frothy_Art! That's right, say goodbye to the old SepM-made UI and hello to some new style!

The idea was to go for a halftone comic book feel with polygons as a motif. (Spicy! 🌶️) It's subject to change with time, but man, is this already looking great! I looking forward to see where these ideas go!

Check out @FrothyRambles!

We also unveiled the 4-player capabilities of the game in our new Closed Alpha. So far, things are looking promising and we had some crazy fun testing it. Now if only all the character models didn't look the same...

Oh wait! We have updates in that front, too!

There's promising effort in the works for 3D models. Working in parallel with Brandon K., our modeler mentioned in a previous devlog, we also are commissioning some of the models. Right now, we have work coming along for Adman. More details on that in the future! Additionally, we have more portrait art on the way with a new artist!

We're also taking story writing for a spin! After no small amount of preparation, we're beginning the Story Mode script with our new writer! Through all of the aforementioned, the characters are steadily coming to life, bit by bit. It's rather exciting!

Remember that Closed Alpha I mentioned? We launched it earlier this month to get more directed feedback. We got some really good suggestions and I'm pretty excited to use them to make the game better. If you're interested in giving it a shot and providing feedback, visit the Closed Alpha page and request a download key!

Celebrating the release of the Closed Alpha, we also held our first tournament with all of three participants. It was a small group, but it was tons of fun! I'm thinking of hosting a tournament at least once a month to increase engagement and visibility of the game's process!

You can catch the replay of tournament #1 here!

On the marketing front, we applied to the Game Devs of Color (GDoC) Expo in hopes of having our game be recognized (and potentially funded). Humble Games doesn't seem to be biting at the moment, but we may check back with another app in the future.

And that's that for April! In May, we'll be working toward updates in art, the story, the gameplay, and more! It's never too late to join this wild ride!

You can join us on Discord, Twitter, Instagram, and now Twitch and YouTube!

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you next month!
